  • You must be a responsible, organized and punctual person, and able to operate autonomously in a classroom environment. There are many people here to support you should you need any help in these areas.
  • The economic and living situations in Peru are not as ¨ideal¨ as in North America and Europe. Accordingly, you need to be able to adapt and thrive in less-than-ideal conditions. (The ability to do so and the experience of living in or visiting such a country is incredibly rewarding, and it will open your eyes to a world beyond your own.)
  • You must have a genuine desire to serve those less fortunate than yourself. We ask that you try to the best of your abilities to contribute to the community of La Esperanza.
  • Knowledge of Spanish is not necessary; we will help you build a foundation for learning the language when you arrive.
  • Teaching experience is not necessary, although you must be enthusiastic and a good role model in a classroom environment.
  • We ask for a contribution, funds OR supplies  (see our Wish List in the Donations page) upon your arrival, to aid us in implementing our programs. We are very flexible with this – feel free to ask for more info.
