Contribution Fee

Horizon, compared to thousands of other non-profit organizations that recruit volunteers and charge large fees, undoubtedly offers one of the best deals to our volunteers. We ask for a minimal one time contribution fee according to length of stay.  This money goes towards maintaining the house, school supplies, and helping us implement our programs.  One of our long term goals is to be able to invest this capital in the community as well.We have a system whereby as you stay longer, you gradually pay less.  Our pricing is as follows:

  • 1 month : 1,200 peruvian nuevos soles (400 u.s. dollars in average)
  • 2 month : 825 peruvian nuevos soles per month (275 u.s. dollars per month in average)
  • 3 – 5 month : 700 – 660 peruvian nuevos soles per month (233 – 220 u.s. dollars per month in average)
  • 6 – 12 month :  600 peruvian nuevos soles per month (200 us dollars per month in average)

We request the money you pay must be in Peruvian Nuevos Soles, the exchange rate we use is 3 peruvian nuevos soles in exchange of 1 us dollar, this is becasue its easy for accounting purposes.

Meals are not including in this pricing, however food and dining out are extremely inexpensive.  Lunch or dinner at a nice restaurant is typically less than $3 US a plate – you can imagine how cheap it is if you decide to cook for yourself instead!).  If you decide to eat the prepared meals at the Horizon house, the cost is 90 peruvian nuevos soles.

All other expense such as travel, food, and recreation are the responsibility of the volunteer.  Lunch or dinner in a nice restaurant typically cost no more than $2-3 US and  if you prefer to cook for yourself it is even cheaper.
